Whatsapp is the most popular messenger in the world as of now. It was founded in 2009 by Jan Koum and Brian acton. The CEO of Whatsapp is also Jan Koum. The HQ of it is in mountain view , California. And it has only 55 employees it was taken over by facebook on february 19 ,2014.
