Basics of quantum physics/ Mechanics
Hello everyone! I think I've mentioned before that I have always wanted to be a particle physicist. To begin with particle physics, we should all first know about quantum mechanics. So anyway here is a bit something about quantum physics. Let's start with what it is all about.
Quantum physics
I think all of you know about normal physics. It's just all about things moving which you can see and justify. Eg: when playing billiards, the force from the stick gives momentum to the striker's ball which transfers the momentum to another ball. In the above example, everything is visible and there is no such complication in that.
However, in quantum physics, it's about things which we cannot see at all. (Apparently, this is completely necessary) Even the word quantum is defined as the minimum amount of any physical entity involved in an interaction. The basic terms related to this are thermal radiation, black body radiation, Planck's constant, photoelectric effect, etc...
Thermal radiation
Thermal radiation isn't electromagnetic radiation emitted from an object on the surface of it due to its internal energy.
Black body
A black body is an idealized physical object which absorbs all incident electromagnetic radiation irrespective of the angle of incidence.
Black body radiation
The radiation emitted by the black body is known
as black body radiation.
Plancks constant
Planck's constant which is named after Max Planck holds a value of 6.63 X 10 raised to the power of -34. It helps in finding out many things.
The photoelectric effect
When a ray of light with sufficient frequency hits a metallic surface, it emits electrons.
Quantum mechanics is a very deep and complex topic. This article provides information on the topic for the sake of only minimal knowledge. However Thanks for reading. Make sure you follow my blog and subscribe for more posts.
